How Do I Plan?

Hello Friends...Lisa here!!
Today I am joining the lovely Jessica Stanford for her linky party:
MrsStanfordsClass

This year it is my goal to stay ahead of the game. I have been teaching 1st grade for a long time so I have become accustomed to not planning ahead too far in advance. However, I do find myself in a mad rush sometimes to get everything ready, so I'm changing it up for this school year.
1. A Yearly Scope and Sequence. Here is my template for the yearly scope and sequence that I'm going to fill out for 1st grade this year.

We have 2 new team members this year, so I want to make sure that I have everything laid out in detail  so it can help them out too.

2. Curriculum Maps:
Before I do any planning, I always double check my curriculum maps to see what skills that I need to touch upon in what time frames! I double check to make sure it matches my yearly scope & sequence.

3. A Yearly Calendar of Important Events!
I saved this calendar set from another wonderful blogger favorite of mine, Nicole from Rowdy From Room 300 over the summer. I have laid out important 1st grade events that we do for the entire school year already to give to my team members when we have our first grade level meeting next week.

4. A good lesson plan template!
This is my lesson plan template for this year. I love to color code everything! :) It prints on 2 pages. My morning lesson plans are on the first page and my afternoon lesson plans are on the 2nd page. I try to keep my lesson plans a couple weeks ahead so that there are no surprises in store!

5. Order papers far in advance...
This has been difficult for me in the past. I usually order things a unit at a time, which doesn't help when I hit those "busy" times of  the year. I'm already ahead of the game this year & have ordered a big bulk of what I need for the year so I don't have to worry about it later on.

The next one is a goal of mine this year. I haven't gotten around to making these yet, but it's on the top of my to do list:
Thematic Binders!

Mrs. Terhune's First Grade Site!: Thematic units in binders

I have all of my resources in folders now, which doesn't help when it comes time to plan. My goal throughout the year is to create a thematic binder for each theme as I plan for it so it's done for next year. Wish me luck!!
Using all of these ideas together helps me in planning tremendously! I hope some of these ideas help you plan your school year successfully.
Let's share our planning ideas!! Go and link up with Jessica Stanford and tell us how you plan!
Join me again tomorrow for another edition of Fabulous Blogger Friday!!
Until the next time!! ,

  2. Great plans. I started the thematic binders about a year and half ago when I had a student intern for 2 months. It has saved me soooooo much time!

  3. I love your pirate theme! So cute! I have been wanting to do thematic binders for quite awhile. We are getting a new LA series this year so I'm not sure what themes we wil be covering. I'm your newest follower!
