Okay! Get ready for another edition of Fabulous Blogger Friday!! :) I hope you are enjoying these features as much as I am!
Today I'm featuring Sara from Smiling in Second Grade!
Your Name/Name of
Blog:
Sara S.
Grade or Subject
You Teach?
Grade 2
What inspired you
to become a teacher?
I grew up in a family of teachers. I distinctly remember going to visit my
Kindergarten teacher before school began and watching her put the classroom
together. That was the moment I knew
what I wanted to be when I grew up. I
was one of those little girls who used to “play school” in my basement.
Describe your
teaching "personality":
I am a calm teacher who expects a lot from her
students. I have been told by multiple
colleagues that I am one of the most patient teachers in the building! I also have very high expectations of my
students. They are in school to learn,
but have fun as well! I want my students
to enjoy learning and to understand why their
learning is important.
What is your
favorite subject to teach?
Reading is my absolute favorite subject to teach. I enjoy reading books out loud to my students
and watching their reactions to the story.
Seeing them discover a new love for reading is awesome. I love hearing the words “this is such a good
book!”
Social Studies is my second favorite subject. I feel as though it opens up a world of
discovery for students. Social Studies
also lends itself to wonderful hands-on projects.
What made you
decide to begin blogging?
I have followed many blogs for a couple of years and
found so many good ideas! This past
September, we started school late due to Hurricane Irene and I was a little
bored. That’s when I thought that I
could share some of my own ideas with fellow teachers. I wasn’t sure how long it would last,
thinking that I might get bored with it quickly. Boy, was I wrong! Blogging has become such a wonderful hobby of
mine and it has definitely helped me become a better teacher.
If you could give
one piece of advice to your fellow teachers & bloggers, what would it be?
Quality is important!
When writing a blog post, think about how your readers will benefit from
it. Also, I am more drawn to bloggers
who are passionate about what they are writing.
Finish this
sentence: You know you're a teacher when _____________________________.
You never turn your mind off from your job! You are always thinking about how you can
make learning better for your students (and you enjoy doing so)!
