My Favorite Freebie Linky Party!

Happy Sunday Friends!,

I can't believe that it's Sunday already! Where did the weekend go?!? I think that I blinked and missed it all! Today I'm linking up with Cynthia from 2nd Grade Pad for the My Favorite Freebie linky party.

I have created quite a few freebies, so it's hard to narrow down which one is my favorite, but if I absolutely had to pick one, it would be my very first freebie that I ever created: Sun, Sand, and Fun in the Sun Paragraph Writing:

It's My Favorite Because: It was my very first Teachers Pay Teachers creation! I also think that it is very helpful with helping students learn the paragraph writing process. It breaks down each step of the process from brainstorming the topic, writing a topic sentence, 3 detail sentences, and a concluding sentence.

The Story Behind It: It was toward the end of last year and I wanted to come up with a way for my students to learn paragraph writing, because some of them were just having trouble getting it. I sat down and thought to myself, what is the best way that I learn different types of writing. Well I am a very visual person who needs steps broken down to the basics. I hopped onto my computer and Sand, Surf, and Fun in the Sun was born. It includes the following pages...

Vocabulary Cards to put on the board... I think this helps your ELL students with vocabulary and helps all students with spelling.
Day 1:  Students will close their eyes and draw what they visualize when they think of the beach.
Then they will complete a 5 Senses Map about the beach:

Day 2: Students will use their maps to develop a topic sentence:
First, you will model how to use the maps to develop a topic sentence, then your students will use their maps and develop their own topic sentences about the beach. Then they will share their topic sentence with the class.

Day 3: Develop Detail Sentences:

Once again, your students will use their bubble map to help them develop 3 detail sentences that tell about the beach. I always model this part for them first and then they write the 3 detail sentences. I do tell my students that they are NOT allowed to copy all of my ideas! :)

Day 4: Develop a Concluding Sentence and Student-Teacher Conference:
We discuss how to end their paragraphs about the beach using a concluding sentence. I model it first and then students develop their own to share. Then students write a rough draft. When students are finished, I call students up for a student/teacher conference to go over their writing and edit it for final draft the next day.
Day 5: Final Draft:

Once everyone has conferenced with me, they will proceed to writing their final copy on this beach themed paper.

I have found that breaking it down does really help them learn the paragraph writing process! To download this freebie, please click on the picture below to take you to the download!

While you're there, take a look at the other freebies in my TPT store!! I have a lot there for your use!! If you have a favorite freebie to share, go & link up with Cynthia at 2nd Grade Pad!

Have a great evening!!,

  7. I love the visualizing piece. We introduce paragraphs to our second graders and have tried a variety of ways, but I really like your scaffolded approach. Thank you for making it a freebie!
